Check AvailabilityThe Farm Tractor & Plow takes the steel classics formula off the job site and into the field. It is a red, retro-styled tractor measuring eighteen and a half inches long, towing a plow that detaches so the tractor can work alone or pull its implement through the furrows.
A detachable implement is a bigger deal in play than it sounds. It turns one vehicle into two configurations and introduces the whole business of hitching and unhitching, which is the agricultural equivalent of loading a dump bed. Planting, plowing, harvesting and the long drive back to the barn all become separate jobs rather than one undifferentiated push across the carpet.
The styling is deliberately old-fashioned — this looks like the tractor on a mid-century seed-company calendar rather than a modern cab-and-computer machine. Steel body, sturdy plastic detailing, free-rolling wheels: the same specification as the construction line.
It is also the easiest way to open a second front in a collection that already has every digger. A farm and a job site do not compete for floor space; they trade loads. Ages three and up.
Every truck in this catalogue follows the construction philosophy Tonka has used since 1947: metal in the load-bearing body, sturdy plastic in the detail work, and moving parts engineered to be operated by enthusiastic hands thousands of times. There are no batteries to die and no screens to crack. What wears in becomes character; what wears out is usually the owner, around age fourteen, right before the truck goes into storage for the next generation.
Outdoor play is what these machines are for. After sessions in wet sand or rain, rinse the truck with clean water and towel it dry — that keeps the steel body and axles smooth for decades. Avoid leaving it submerged or outside through winter. For collector-grade display models, an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth keeps decals and paint sharp. The full routine is in our Play & Care Guide.
